Julia Merritt
Julia brings her multiple talents to pursue excellence in leadership, animal bodywork, and creative writing.
Julia started her career in public libraries as a Page, and worked up to being a leader in the field. As CEO for a decade she has proven her ability to lead teams to create and sustain changes that improve the community's quality of life. As a young executive, she was able to use her knowledge of the sector to make effective changes, while bringing fresh energy to the task of modernizing public libraries.
A lifelong equestrian, in 2017 Julia became certified in Equi-Bow, a bodywork modality for horses, and began using her horsemanship skills to help others. Her specialty lies in analyzing complex situations to improve athletic performance and the horse-human relationship.
Having established her library career, Julia has circled back to her original love of literature and has completed her first novel, horse/man, to be published in 2022. Inspired by reflections on the connections between horses and humans, and the contributions of both horse and human physical labour to the evolution of modern society, horse/man inspires the reader to celebrate the depth of relationships they have with non-human beings and places.
Julia lives in Nova Scotia with her smooth collie dogs and her thoroughbred horses.
